Convert from Adobe XD

Step-by-step: turn an Adobe XD file (.xd) into WordPress content. Available from the Pro plan.

Importing .xd files is available from the Pro plan (Pro, Agency and Studio). You upload the file itself — no export step needed.

Free and Starter accounts

When you pick an .xd file, Tapeto refuses it with “Your plan does not include this source”. On Free or Starter you can instead use a ZIP / HTML site or Figma, or upgrade from Settings → Plan & billing. Once you are on Pro, follow the steps below.

All the artboards of the file are read and become consecutive sections of one converted page. For a multi-page site, keep one file per page or use another source.

Before you start

  • A Pro, Agency or Studio account.
  • The .xd file, up to 5–200 MB (by plan).
  • Your WordPress site, if you will publish: see the ZIP / HTML guide.

Step 1 — Prepare the design in Adobe XD

  1. Put the page on artboards at desktop width, in the order you want them to appear (top to bottom).
  2. Name your artboards and layers by purpose — Header, Hero, Footer, Card.
  3. Use real text objects and fonts available on Google Fonts.
  4. Keep images and SVGs inside the file: they travel in the .xd package and are detected as assets.
  5. Delete artboards you do not want converted.

Step 2 — Create the project

  1. In Tapeto click New project and write a name.
  2. Stay on the File tab (the same one used for ZIP / HTML).
  3. Drop the .xd file in the area. Tapeto recognises it by its extension.
  4. Click Create project and wait until the status is parsed.

If the file cannot be opened as an XD package, the project ends in error with the reason.

Step 3 — Choose the builder and convert

  1. Open the project and pick Gutenberg or Elementor.
  2. Click Convert, wait until the conversion is completed and check the Preview and the Fidelity Score.
  3. Check the images, and replace any missing one from the Media Library after importing.

Step 4 — Get the result into WordPress

  1. Download files or Copy from the Content tab and import by hand — the Instructions tab shows the steps for your builder.
  2. Or Export WXR and import it from Tools → Import → WordPress (no plugin needed).
  3. Or Publish to WordPress: with the plugin installed and the site added under WP Connections (3 sites on Pro, 10 on Agency, unlimited on Studio), the page is created as a draft. See the ZIP / HTML guide for the full procedure.
  4. On Agency and Studio, the WXR can also include custom post types and loops.
